Hand sockets in CR-V and impact sockets in CR-MO, supplied as open stock or as complete sets from 46 to 108 pieces. Hand sockets are heat treated for hardness and chrome plated for a bright, corrosion-resistant finish; impact sockets are phosphated and blackened for toughness under air and electric tool vibration.

Materials & construction
Two steel grades cover the whole socket range, and they are not interchangeable. The grade determines whether a socket survives a hand ratchet or a pneumatic gun.
Chrome vanadium sockets
- Heat treated, then chrome plated for a mirror finish
- Hard surface with good wear resistance for hand tools
- 1/4", 3/8" and 1/2" drive
- 6-point, deep, thin-wall, bit and E-Type variants
- Not rated for impact or pneumatic use
Chrome molybdenum sockets
- Forged for toughness rather than surface hardness
- Black oxide or colour-band finish

A common cause of split socket walls in service is running a CR-V socket on an impact gun. The steel is hard but not tough enough to absorb repeated shock loads — specify CR-MO for anything driven by air or a brushless motor.
